Subject: Re: problems with texfonts.map
By the way, if you have AFM files with names like pplr.afm,
and want to rename them to the full PostScript FontName
(with a symbolic link to the fontname-1.6 short name)
I can provide you with a well tested script that does just
that. I acknowledge the convenience of short names
from the programming standpoint, but I can never adequately recall
what they mean. So my AFM farm has all the afms actually identified
by their fully qualified PostScript fontname. (GoudyOldStyleBT-BoldItalic.afm)
At the present time, there is no general way to
get the PostScript FontName out of a tfm file, however. The FontName
would have to be recorded as a TFM comment. That does not
happen at present. Perhaps it should. A small adjustment
to "afm2tfm" would provide for it.

The University of Washington has ordered us to close the Northwest
Computing Support Center, and to terminate the official support
of UnixTeX. Although the termination was final as of June 14, 1994
I will continue unofficially to provide tape distributions and
any other services I can. Although I cannot be near my phone on any
regular schedule, I now have an answering machine. Please note
the changes in address and telephone number. There is no Northwest
Computing Support Center any longer.
